Destination Slovakia for the UIAA season opener

The first of the twelve events which make up the 2024-2025 UIAA Ice Climbing World Tour, partnered by Outdoor Research, takes place on Saturday 23 November.

Zilina, Slovakia hosts the official season opener with a European Continental Open competition in the lead discipline. It will be the sixth time that Zilina has hosted a UIAA-sanctioned event and it marks the first of four successive Saturdays with European competition taking place in different European venues. The event is organised by the Slovak Mountaineering Union (JAMES).

A livestream of competition will be available on the UIAA YouTube channel with details, including an embed code and live link, available below. Programme details are available here. Qualification takes place at 10:00 local time and the finals at 18:00.


An impressive field of 76 athletes representing 14 nations are expected to compete. This includes a sizeable contingent from the United Kingdom as well as significant representation from the host country, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovenia and Switzerland. Round 2 of the European continental season takes place in Bern, Switzerland on Saturday 30 November. The World Cup events, the first of five, start on the weekend of 10-12 January in Cheongsong, South Korea.
