Zilina set to host its seventh UIAA Continental Cup

Following a high-quality start to the 2025-2026 UIAA Ice Climbing season in Switzerland last week, round 2 of the competition will seek to match the impressive competition on the wall and warm atmosphere off it.

For the seventh time, a UIAA-sanctioned event heads to Zilina, Slovakia for a competition organised in collaboration with the Slovak Mountaineering Union (JAMES) and La Skala Climbing Centre.

The weekend is set to better the 76 athletes who competed in Bern with over 80 registrations from 14 member associations – Canada, Czechia, Finland, France, Japan, Liechtenstein, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine, the UK and the United States – registered for the lead (difficulty)-only competition. Host nation Slovakia currently have five athletes set to compete with impressive contingents from nearby Czechia as well as the British and Spanish teams.

There is likely to be a shake-up of the leaderboard with only two of last weekend’s six medallists currently in line to compete – Oliver Hamerský of Czechia and Marion Salmon-Thomas of France both claimed silver medals last weekend. The line-up remains stacked with athletes to have medalled on the Continental circuit over recent seasons such as Jorge Veiga Rodriguez (Spain), Virgile Devin (France), Lena and Lorena Beck (Liechtenstein) and Catalina Shirley (United States).

Action takes place throughout the day on Saturday 29 November with qualification running from the morning until 16:00 and the finals for both men and women at 18:00. Livestreaming will be offered from both sessions with live links provided below.
