UIAA reconfirms suspension of Russian officials and athletes for the 2023 season

On 13 September, the UIAA – International Climbing & Mountaineering Federation – Executive Board unanimously decided to reconfirm the official UIAA statements, released on 25 February and 3 March regarding the situation concerning Russian officials and athletes competing in the 2022-23 UIAA Ice Climbing World Tour.

As a result, delegates from the Russian Mountaineering Federation (RMF), Russian officials and athletes continue to be excluded from all UIAA-sanctioned activities and events. The UIAA will not accept any applications from Russia and the RMF for future hosting of UIAA-sanctioned Ice Climbing competitions. This is to protect the safety and security of the Ice Climbing community and the integrity of the sport. A recent athletes and event organisers survey has also produced very clear results that are in line with the EB decisions.
